Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

Wow, she’s 35? I thought she was a teenager! Goth (general term) ain’t really my thing, but you gotta hand it to her. Osaka looks sunny by the way!

She looks so young… o___o
anyways, she really cute and I love her pins.

“Oi!” Slighly ironic name, cause this makes me want to jump up and yell it. Punk juxtapose pink fuzzy things is so FUN! Love it!

Love it! ♥ I have the same skirt from hiderock design and very similar boots, except they are from Getta Grip. ^^ I love everything about her look. The Misfits pouch is lovely. :) The ‘殺 – kill‘ pin is cool! But I can only make out the ‘ビニール – vinyl‘ from the inscription under it. The kanjis are too small to read. I’m wondering what can it be… :D Hip flap? I didn’t know they were called that way. I own three of them and I think they are really good accessories. ^^

I have a soft spot for punk/rock so for me this look is 10/10.

PS: Why is that character in the straitjacket so familiar to me? :O

Wow, I didn’t expect so many positive comments in such a short period for this look. Glad you all like oi.‘s outfit.

@Mel & Dustheap: I was just as surprised as you when oi. told me her age. I thought she was in her early 20s…

@petitesam: Yes, me too. I laughed when she told me.

@gionbaby: I have added a close-up of the buttons for you, so you can check out the 殺 button. The characters are not fully focused, so I have some trouble reading them. Perhaps you are OK.

They are called hip flaps in Japan. I am not sure if the term is used outside Japan. By the way, Modern Pirates features some cool hip flaps.

@gionbaby: I figured the button out: 殺害塩化ビニール (Satsugai Enka Biniiru; lit: Murder Vinyl Chloride). The band has an entry on Wikipedia Japan.

I love everything about this outfit! She looks amazing for 35! I agree, the Misfits pouch is lovely (my favorite thing on her outfit!). And I really like her jacket because the sleeves are long :P

@Trinity & gionbaby: I am a little confused about your assigning the pouch to Misfits. It’s actually produced by the Japanese brand Deorart. Or maybe I just misunderstand what you mean?

Wow! that’s a super cool outfit! Age is only a number in her case. haha She’ll still look awesome with that style even if she’s 70. XD

i bet her outfit’s accesories gain 1/2 of her weight
she looks so cool! except the weird color of her lipstic?

@wara: I would love see Oi. at 70. I am sure she’ll be just as cool!

@ojisanbaka: Haha, you’re probably right about the weight of all the accessories!

No way, she can’t be 35 ö_ö
It is almost scary how young someone can look…
anyway, I really like the outfit.
So many details to discover, I love it <3

Berry

@Berry: It is almost like a Where’s Wally? picture, isn’t it? There’s little things hidden everywhere.

@Kjeld Duits: Thank you so much! No no, your Japanese is definitely WAY better than mine. XD I’m still having some problems with kanji and stuff. :‘D Haha, so 殺害塩化ビニール is like a record label for the weirdest bands in Japan. I’m definitely going to keep an eye on them. =DD

I love the Modern Pirates hip flaps! Actually all their stuff is really cool! I have a Sex Pot one, a Tokyo Punker (simple black leather) one and a red plaid/tartan one which I bought in Sendai. ^^ Love them all.

About the Misfits pouch… I know it’s made by Deorart but the skull is the logo of the American band Misfits. They also “borrowed” it from a movie’s poster called The Crimson Ghost though. =P

I totally agree with your last comment (to Berry). There are so many little things “hidden” on her outfit, that every time I look at the photos I can discover something new. Truly awesome. <3

@gionbaby: Actually my understanding of kanji is still far too limited. The dictionary is my good friend. Glad that you liked the links that I introduced. The Misfits skull looks very different to me, but maybe it’s just me?

@Kjeld Duits: When it comes to kanji, dictionary is definitely my best friend! XDD And I couldn’t live without Rikaichan, while browsing Japanese pages on the internet. :‘D

This is the Misfits skull logo. I think it’s the same with the skull above on oi.‘s pouch.

@gionbaby: I always use Jim Breen’s WWWJDIC. Rikaichan is great. I actually never installed it because I mainly use Safari. But I just installed it in Firefox now, and will probably use Firefox a lot more from here on because of it.

Finally figured out what you mean! I was looking at the Deorart Pouch (picture number 6), which has a completely different skull. But you were looking at picture number 4… It really is like a Where’s Wally? picture! LOL
