Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

Omoshiroi!! Its a hint of lolita, a hint of business, and totally original. What is the concept here? Really cool. Thanks Japanese streets for taking runway shots, very interesting and inspiring for sure.

I love the last one so bad: the beautiful blouse, the pants, the belt (or is it part of the pants?). It’s perfect! I would choose a bit simpler shoes though. Maybe something similar to the ones on the picture right above… hmm.

I like the clothes, but I feel the wigs don’t always flatter the models. When the first model came in (not in the pictures above) I thought it was a man in drag at first…

@Kjeld Duits-Yea, I understand what you mean! The cheek bones on the models are so severe that it could come off a little drag-ish. I doubt that’s what the designer was intending. I love the idea of the hair though..The big and curly on the sides..I’d like to see this minimalized on the streets of Tokyo! (Which is possibly where the designer got the inspiration for the hair! Haha.

ALSO! Are you guys going to post the Mercibeaucoup show? I REALLY want to see the newest collection..Can’t find it online. Bought some of their drop crotch jeans when I was last in Tokyo. I LOVE that brand, especially when taken apart and mixed with other things.

@Lactose Intoler-Art: mercibeaucoup was supposed to be today, but this morning the photographers were told that photography was not allowed at mercibeaucoup. I think it was actually just an exhibition. I love them, too, so was really disappointed. See our old shots of mercibeaucoup creations.

Purnima Bridal Fashion—I thought most of the outfits were wearable (for ordinary people) and not over-the-top like in previous creations.

At first I thought there was only one model on the runway who had to change into 13 outfits. I took a closer look at their faces, and found that that wasn’t the case. Like Lactose Intoler-Art stated first about the different styles suited for different occasions, maybe the purpose was to show different personalities in a person? (Again, this is just my instinct and I’m not very familiar with how the fashion industries work.)

@NucleolusEgoist: The models do all look alike somehow, don’t they? I wonder if it is the wigs, the clothing, or the combination of the two.
