Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

@Sammi: I don’t know him, I am afraid. Please use lower case for your comments; using upper case is interpreted as shouting. Shouting comments are removed.

I love it when “visually-tainted” models are hired professionally put out there in media. It’s so nice to see people with various peircings, spacers and tattoos in mainstream, high-end fashion etc accepted for how they appear with all the nooks and crannies _

@Casicko: @IZREEL has an image that encompasses mode and on the edge, that’s why the brand goes for these models, I think.

@Casicko, in high fashion this is not an unusual trend at all, you see it all the time over in Europe and New York, also. A lot of Top Models (Josh Beech, Ash Stymest, Luke Whorral, Cole Mohr) are covered in tattoos and piercings. They are very edgy and in fashion that is the current “look.”

Also @Kjeld, I think censoring “caps lock” comments is a bit…. anti-freedom-of-speech? Especially when a lot of people use caps to denote excitement or enthusiasm rather than anger.

In terms of this collection? Not my favorite from a Japanese designer. GalaabenD and Diet Butcher Slim Skin come to mind initially as cream-of-the-crop when it comes to Japanese fashion design. The tailoring here is a bit sloppy, is the designer new to the scene? I love the suiting, though, conceptually. If the execution was a bit more refined it’d be flawless. It’ll come with time.

FNG: @IZREEL started in 2003; some might consider that new. – _ ^

We are not that strict with “caps lock” comments. After all, the above comment is still there. Just making sure the comments remain easy to read and don’t turn into a shouting match. Most importantly, we want JS to be a relaxed fun place for Japanese fashion where people feel welcome, not one where you have to worry that someone might flame you.
