Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

I really like these outfits, but I feel the over the top headgear is too distracting.

This collection is great! I remember seeing Ne-Net and not being familiar with the brand during my first trip to Japan in 2008. They inspired me then and I appreciate them for definitely staying true to their vision and what their brand has been about.

@Emma. I can see what you mean. To me personally I get a little bit of a slightly slight creepy feeling, but I think they are still cool for the show. Almost like live crazy circus doodles on a runway. (Not a huge clown fan, haha)

@Emma & Lactose Intoler-Art: I like the headgear, actually. It made it playful and irreverent. I felt like I was watching a fashion show of stuffed animals, or characters of a fairy tale or story book. ^_- It was almost dream-like.

I’m not a particular fan of the headgear, either, but it definitely makes sense for a fashion show. Since these pieces have such a comfy, immediately wearable sense of street style, they probably needed to do something bigger to stand out and appear more exotic and “runway ready”.

I adore the long dresses and skirts with hoodie-styled pockets. So many of these pieces are soft with excellent flow and texture. While a lot of them are more “lounge” in style and comfort, they still appear sleek and interesting. I really, really like this set.
