Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

Wow…she has the same name as my Dad…and they’ve asked my Dad whether that was a female name to begin with. Eeek. My Dad is no where near as colorful as she is. :)

In the shots of the meeting, I didn’t notice how cute her shoes are! <3 The last shot is so adorable~

@Fumi: Yes, as you know there are a lot of names in Japan that are gender-free. Naturally, the kanji is very different for male and female names. Even when they are pronounced the same way.

@Maria: That’s why I always try to shoot as many participants as possible in these events individually. ^^
@Mika: ^^

Kjeld: I’ve always been a little weary about how I would approach someone to take photos like the ones you take. I was in Harajuku a couple of years ago and I saw a woman (no joke) wearing a leopard skin jumpsuit with accessories to match…including her little baby girl in the stroller, who was also in leopard print. I soooooooooooooooooooo wanted to take a photo but thought it would be a tad weird, esp. her with a little baby.

@Fumi: To the mother herself her clothes are not weird (otherwise she wouldn’t wear them), so if you ask nicely and normally, I’m sure she will not mind having you photograph her. ^^ And shots of mothers with their babies are usually beautiful. ^_-

The mother was so fashionable (and she damn well knew it; how else could she work a completely leopard print outfit?), very svelte. And her baby was absolutely adorable! I hope you get to see her (though now her child should be walking) and take pictures!

@Fumi: I’ll keep my eyes open for leopard print clad moms. ^_-
