Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

I would love to have a sister like that, I could create so many outfits with our clothes!!! >_<
I like her eyes :3

What an awesome pair of siblings! :D Each with her own unique style.

I love the contrast between the grotesque eye accessories and the reeeeeeaaallly cute bunny shoes!
And it’s truly interesting to see that at the bottom half she’s wearing rather sweet colours, while at the upper half she used cooler and darker colours (apart from the backpack that shows a little)
Her hair accessories are sweet again, so that the whole outfit matches pretty well. I think she’s done a great job!

So lovely!
In the Netherlands they will gossip if I wear this kind of clothes ><

Btw I totally LOVE your blog!

@Maria & Alexandra: I love it when I see siblings get along this well. I know quite a few, many of them—like Kanako and Mariko—even live together. Can’t help being a bit envious. ^_-

@Nyurah: The blouse is actually a dyed school uniform. HIROAKI ISHIYAMA is Kanako’s friend. I saw several of his designs or remakes and really like them. Hope to interview him soon.

@DinjaDONUT: I am actually from the Netherlands myself and even got beat up at times for looking “outrageous.” The commonly used phrase “Doe maar gewoon dan doe je al gek genoeg,” sounds reasonable, but can get people to do some pretty unreasonable things…

@KD: Same feeling here. I can’t share clothing with my brother, though I can get creative with my mother’s wardrobe sometimes ^^U
Possible interview! yay! :D

@DinjaDONUT: You’re not the only one out there. I’m from Switzerland and I got stared at quite often. I also hear people I don’t know make comments about my style, because I don’t dress…well, let’s say very mainstreamly… But at the other hand it makes me very happy when people compliment me. :)

@Nyurah: Non-conformity scares a lot of people. A little while ago we had a very similar conversation about not being able to wear what you want with several JS fans from Poland.

What a very interesting mix of elements! I love that earring with that backpack. No idea on the brand of the earring?

@Kjeld: Oh, didn’t see it. Sorry :(
But it’s really sad to read that so many countries are so intolerant…

@Nyurah: Just shows that people are basically the same all over the world. Which in the end is probably a positive thing, because when more people realize that, differences matter less. ^^

I think it depends on what part of the country you live in. I live in the US and could easily get away with wearing this daily if I had the budget for it. I might get an odd look or two (just like I’m sure these girls to sometimes) but nothing too bad.
