Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

Very cool, I love her use of color, and the scrunched tights are really interesting!

@Lactose Intoler-Art, Safiya, Lily: Those tights are arresting. They are not tight at all. Maybe they should be called untights or sloppies. ^_-

And she knitted that HERSELF! Man, so great! Stardet knitting a scarf and that took me long enough.. So great..

@Nyurah: Actually, HAND-KNIT is the name of the brand. When I checked the label I immediately realized that the name would cause misunderstandings. When something is made by the person him or herself we introduce it with (self) or similar explanations. It will always be in lower case and in parentheses.

Those shoes are awesomeeee * _ *
I wonder if she likes kpop, her hair color is like Minzy’s, from 2NE1 <33

@Maria: I just asked Ayako if she is interested in K-Pop. She says she is, but that she knows very little about it. She doesn’t speak English and hasn’t figured out yet how to use the JS comments on her mobile phone.

@KD: Oh…I see. Well, even knowing very little, she has a kpop-like hairstyle hehe ^^

I think more people should comment on this site in Japanese though! Haha. “日本語もOKでしょう“ (笑)

@Lactose Intoler-Art: yeah! I think so too… maybe they see so many comments in English that they feel demotivated :/
Should we starting commenting in Japanese?! XD

@Lactose Intoler-Art & Maria: YES. I am trying hard to get more Japanese people to comment and tell them that even commenting in Japanese is OK. I think many are still intimidated by the English. Although Japanese comments are fine, it is important that JS remains mostly an English site, though. ^^

I agree, I think one of the things that has made this site so great from an early point is that English speakers could connect easily. But I also agree that more Japanese would be great too, especially since some Japanese people may feel much more comfortable typing in their own first language.

I will make comments in Japanese from now on. Since I’ll write based on whay I’ve learned, it’ll be only simple comments like “cute” and “I like her skirt” lol ^^U

@Maria: I will do the same thing. Also my knwoledge somehow ends at “cute”…^^

@Lactose Intoler-Art, Maria & Nyurah: Thanks. That’s a good initiative. I like the idea of JS becoming bilingual, especially if that helps to pull in more Japanese commenters.

I imagine the brand HAND-KNIT doesn’t really have hand knitted stuff. If they do, I don’t think that sweater would really cost Y1000 (unless it’s extreme clearance or something).
