Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

Wow, I admire him for walking with those pants and those shoes at the same time! Amazing! D:
So far I can tell that: Junya likes bright colors, animal-related clothes and spikes; his style is something liiiike….rainbow punk ^^
Is he a super lover of SUPER LOVERS or just works there?

@Maria: Junya works at SUPER LOVERS, but he is also a great fan of the brand. Yes, the platform shoes and the pants do seem to restrict locomotion a bit, don’t they! I hadn’t considered that at all. LOL

The pink camera is a fun contrast with the red on the rest of the outfit.

@Alexandra: I was really surprised when Nikon came out with a pink camera, but I am glad they did. Looks great, right?

I love so many elements of this outfit, from the red hair, to the spiked headband, the camera, and the amazing platforms. I only wish Buffalo shoes weren’t so rare and expensive or I’d totally buy a pair.

@ela: Perhaps time to get one of those old-fashioned piggy banks and drop in a few coins every day? ^_-

@Kjeld, haha that could be a good plan. However, I’m just not sure I can justify spending over $200 on any single article of clothing.

@Ela: Aha, that is a totally different problem. I also have trouble spending that much on shoes. But I don’t mind spending it on something like Yohji Yamamoto pants… It feels like buying art. And if well-cared for, they last just as long. ^_-

@Kjeld: Yes, I understand. Quality over quantity is often very important. Unless you get bored with your clothing quickly, as I sometimes do! As a poor artist, I find thrift shopping to be the best and most affordable antidote to that.

@ela: The best place to find good stuff at affordable prices! Most of the people I shoot find their best pieces at vintage clothing stores. There are lots of them in Tokyo.
