Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

A very interesting look, it reminds me of my childhood! The slinkys, bright colors, and the necklaces she is wearing… I remember owning and playing with things like that. I like her creativity, but I don’t think I could leave the house dressed like that, I would feel silly.

15 years old? I wonder if she’s going to school dressed like that :)

I love how Nozomi has created her own t-shirt and pants. That is the kind of fashion I love photographing best.

@Leah: It reminds me of the looks I saw, and photographed, when I first started JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. You don’t see this too much anymore. Wonder if there ever will be a comeback.

@Adrian: I am pretty sure she is wearing a very neat uniform. 。◕‿◕。

Love the eye make-up; it reminds me of Lady Gaga during her black and white Mugler phase early this spring!

@MissMolly: Wow! Lady Gaga is probably the last person to come to mind when I look at Nozomi’s style. ^_-

@Kjeld Duits: I agree with you. This style is not seen that often anymore. Decora and oshare-kei are a little bit forgotten :’( I really like those styles. I am hoping for a comeback of those bright outfits!

I think I have already seen that green skeleton in some other outfit…
Her eye make-up reminded me of Cirque du Soleil, so cool <3

Probably from the restraints of wearing a uniform, she decides to go over-the-top with this look, but it’s fun, and she’s young enough, so why not? I myself couldn’t pull this off, as I’d probably be hauled into the nearest mental hospital (j/k). But I like how colorful and confident she is!

@Maria: Yes, I remember shooting the skeleton several times before, in different colors.

@CodeNameKohaku: Mental hospitals need to be avoided. ^_- Perhaps you can use aspects?

@Kjeld: Definitely! I love her eye makeup, as others have said, and her boots would be a fun coordinate for an outfit, definitely! And I just noticed her awesome Grateful Dead pouch in one of the photos!

@CodeNameKohaku: I just noticed her awesome Grateful Dead pouch in one of the photos! — The images of Nozomi are almost like a Find Wally poster, don’t you think? The longer you look, the more you discover!
