Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

すごいいいスタイル! I love his style…The bag is my favorite part. Really unique and artistic.

@Lactose Intoler-Art: That bag actually reminds me of a bag my mother made for me out of an old velvet curtain when I was in high school. Probably one of the coolest bags I have ever had and my mother was totally unaware she had created something cool.

@Emma: I first thought his hair was a cap. LOL. Great shoes, eh! Besides, how many people create their own?

@Kjeld-That sounds awesome! I bet it would cost a fortune in a cool shop in Harajuku now.

@Lactose Intoler-Art: It probably would actually. Too bad I just used it until it fell apart and din’t realize the artistic value of it for future generations. To me, and my mother, it was just a bag made from an old curtain. LOL But then again, this was at a time when it was still quite normal that you made your own clothes. My mother was from one of the last generations who before marriage learnt how to make all their family member’s own clothes.

Anggia Chie, an Indonesian fan of JAPANESE STREETS, has created a lovely illustration of my photos of Masayoshi.

That fur with animal face is disgusting, no matter it’s false fur… It’s a lack of respect and put fur as a normal thing to wear…

@Vaihere: I sometimes wear leather shoes, I have a leather wallet, and I eat fish, chicken and eggs. I also enjoy watching movies (the film used in movies contains gelatin derived from the collagen inside animals’ skin and bones). As I “sin” myself, I feel that I have no right to judge others.
