some great inventive pieces of work, but i’m not that impressed by all the role-playing-game inspired outfits in the middle.. think cosplaying doesnt have to take part on the runway in this extent. sure its part of the young designers background (?) but..

AWESOMELY AMAZING. Love Bunka, love the Enormous volume, the detailings, and most of all the heart-full passion designers :) A Big big heart to Mad Buster, LOVE

Wooooooooooow! o__o It’s incredible! There a loooot of fantasy and ‘culture design’ !! Incredible. What’s interesting is that you can see a generation shift ;) in the works of young students who were raised by games, anime and other modern pop culture ! \o/ Unlimited fantasy FTW!
I’m watching it again. Incredible, increadible, incredible works of art!!!

By watching this I’ve travel around the world, went through history, been to a pijama party, remembered Twiggy and been invited to a really high class masquerade party.
Loved it all!

@セキマスカッツ, double: Thanks for noticing that they were missing. We are still trying to get those photos from Bunka Fukusou Gakuin.

The details are amazing on all these pieces! (looks like the took a lot of time and money) but I think some of them are a little too anime, AKA more costume-y than avant garde. BUT thanks for the upload Kjeld!! I love having some fashion eye candy to check out once in awhile!

@Sierra: Glad you liked this, Sierra. Now that I am based in Tokyo, I’ll be able to do more of this. Actually, my assistant Anzu graduated from Bunka. A great help. ^^

@KD: Anzu is from Bunka, cool! When are we watching her works? n_n

Maria
Nov 10, 2011 (4523 days ago)

@Maria: Anzu has been my assistant for quite a while already, but since last month she works with me full-time. As her main duties consists of assisting me she works mostly behind the scenes. But, she has been creating the latest color updates and she also shoots on the street sometimes.

Kjeld Duits
Nov 10, 2011 (4523 days ago)

@KD: Since you had told me that sometimes the site automatically credits her, I thought those shots that said Anzu were the same “auto-named” cases. (n_n’‘)

These festival collections very much show the ‘effort’ of garment making created by youths. However, quality, concept, and creativity are questionable to me. Japan can do much better than that.

@Maria: No these are labeled correctly.
@Bunka graduate: Do you have anyone particular in mind?

Absolutely Amazing. I am a person who loves attention to detail, and these really blew it out of the park for me. The quaity is so amazing, they all look incredibly expensive each piece does. Resistance, Mud Busters and Pile Up were perhaps my favorites, but they all were amazing. I am doing a show in two months and this makes me want to work super hard to create awesome pieces. And a little bit of me died inside because they were so good.

@MissMolly: Please don’t let the work of others get you down. Instead, we would like our photographs to inspire you. I am sure you have lots of creativity inside just waiting for an excuse to burst out. ^^

Every year, it’s the same thing. Big volume, Fluff, ornamentation, and sparkle. I think there’s a big difference between fashion and costume. With Bunka, sure they have many talents with potential.. but I believe the school system itself is still old fashioned dictated by teachers from the bubble era japan. That’s why those collections always look like that. In order for Japan to get their young designers more internationally recognized, they have to evolve…or even revolutionize the design education system. ESMOD japan btw has a greater reputation than Bunka nowadays. remember how much power japan creativity had during yamamoto and rei kawakubo’s era???

Nov 11, 2011 (4522 days ago)

@Bunka graduate: Thanks for sharing. I actually visited ESMOD Japan last year and liked what I saw. I hope to cover them and VANTAN, which I haven’t visited yet, as well as a few other schools, once I have settled into Tokyo a bit more.

Bunka is really the best in producing creative ideas when it comes to fashion.

Amazing, amazing work. I’d rather see these fantastical ideas that look like avant garde costumed pieces than the same boring experimental knitwear that gets pumped out of colleges like my school.

I was checking this collections again. Tounan-Neppu’s designs reminded of Gon’s style ^^

Feb 7, 2012 (4434 days ago)

@Maria: Really? I don’t see it… What aspects of Tounan-Neppu’s work reminds you of Gon’s work?

Kjeld Duits
Feb 7, 2012 (4434 days ago)

@KD: It reminded me of the first time I saw Gon. What reminds me of her style…I think it’s mostly the stripes and textures, kinda tribal, kinda from other cultures… I think I’ve seen things with Tounan-Neppu’s style in Gon’s store ^^’‘

Maria
Feb 7, 2012 (4434 days ago)

@Maria: I see where you’re coming from now. Yes, Gon does have something tribal in her designs.
