Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

Oh my gosh that last shot is amazing. I’m loving these photos. That hood is connected right? I mean, its not detachable is it? Things like the small extra pinned piece of lace detail on the skirt is for some reason the type of thing that makes me really interested in what’s going on with remake fashion in Tokyo right now.

@Lactose Intoler-Art: Excellent question. Now that you ask, I am not so sure anymore. Anzu did the data collection, so I didn’t have the chance to ask all the questions about each item that I usually ask.

Things like the small extra pinned piece of lace detail on the skirt is for some reason the type of thing that makes me really interested in what’s going on with remake fashion in Tokyo right now. — That is really what defines Japanese street fashion, right? The immense attention to detail.

Oh my goodness! I want that bag soooo bad! I love Alice in Wonderland! The pins are so cute too!

I really like this look because it has both elements of grunge/edge (the double layered jackets, the tartan print on the inside of the jacket, the pins on her skirt, the doc martens) and girlyness (the lace detailing on the skirt, the gray blazer, the rose bracelets, the rose print leggings). I always love this kind of outfit because the contrast makes it so cool!
She’s also very pretty!

oohh, I have those leggings. I love them :) It’s always fun to see people from another country (I’m from Denmark and thats a long way from Japan) wearing the same clothes as yourself :)

@Emilie: It’s incredible that two people living so far away from each other share an item in their wardrobe! Do you happen to know the brand name of those leggings? Sai wasn’t able to tell us, and we didn’t recognize them…

I love what she’s wearing.
And I want that pin that has my name on it.
:)
How she pairs that pin-striped blazer with that white hoodie with the plaid fabric on the inside—it’s so cute!

@Emily: Haha, yes, the pin does have your name! I am actually a great fan of Emily the Strange and was happy to see Sai wearing this button. Do you recognize yourself in the other Emily?

The outfit demands style approval yet the conformative shoes is upsetting, the style retract elements of the mundane pop culture… rating 4/10.

I loved the leggins and the jacket, and I totally fell for the Wonderland Bunny details <3
