Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

Cool! I like her style. Its interesting how a lot of Japanese girls make that face like she is making with her lips in the 2nd picture! Haha.

And I didn’t know Lim Code sold wigs! When I live in Japan, I think I will get my hair cut by them.

I thought you had already shot her :/
Her face is really familiar or her expressions
@Lactose Intoler-Art maybe is that face what made me think of her as someone I had already seen n_nn

@Lactose Intoler-Art: The thing about Lim Code was new to me, too. I haven’t yet confirmed it with Lim Code. But it does kind of make sense as they are always ahead of the curve.

@Maria: Yes, there are some expressions that you see used by lots of people. Especially the Donald Duck lips!

Donald Duck lips! I love it!!! I would probably have said ‘pouty’ but the duck image is perfect!
Either way, be careful of doing that too much while you’re young, ladies, or you’ll wind up with some nasty lip commas you’ll regret when you’re older!
Public service announcement aside, I do like her outfit alot – it’s evocative of someone from the Victorian era going on a holiday safari. Just lovely!

@2046: And I like your description: someone from the Victorian era going on a holiday safari. I can visualize that!

I like that description also! This is such a cute look. I love the texture that her hair, fur collar, bag, scarf and the corset bring to an otherwise neutral and monochromatic look. The shoes, too…wow. It looks all rather effortless and natural—which makes it work so well. Awesome! _

@Lactose Intoler-Art after looking at Japanese fashion blogs for so long, I often make that face too now xD

The shoes are a really nice piece. I think the red in them is good to bring color into her very neutral outfit (also the orange in the belt). I love rocking horse shoes but I’ve never seen them in a style like hers. It makes sense that Vivienne Westwood would make these to match the naturalistic trend popular nowadays.

@Arc Haha! I can relate to that. When I’m with Japanese people for a long time, I tend to start having some of the same cultural mannerisms, like bowing when I come back to America on accident in situations such as bumping into someone. haha

Rocking horse shoes..I’ll have to search that!

@Arc & Lactose Intoler-Art: I see a lot of these shoes. Here are some other rocking horse shoes. We also have a special rocking horse shoe section in our shop.

to be honest, at first I was a little iffy about her look, but then looking at it again I’m so into it! haha… one of those second glance moments??? =]]]

@Sasha: I love second glance moments, they often lead to an epiphany.

@Sasha @KD: maybe that’s why I always see them more than 3 times, plus there’s always a detail I discover after the second glance at the shots :D

@KD: I didn’t think that was cool n_n’‘
I thought that if I want to be a photographer I should have eye for details :/

@Maria: All artists actually spend a lot of time looking at the same thing, especially their own works. Vincent van Gogh was known to stare at his own works for days. That’s how the brain discovers things.

@KD: Didn’t know that about van Gogh D: But it’s true, you discover thing when looking at something (or even at someone) a lot of times or for a long time.

@Maria: Very true. Actually I also spend lots and lots of time looking at the same image. I don’t do this with every image I shoot of course, but the ones I feel that I can learn something from.
