Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

mmm…I was kinda bored at the beginning but then flower patterns and lovely colors appeared, then some good gray and black designs too… n_n’‘

Wow. At first, when I saw the preview image where all the other new photos are, I was skeptical about clicking it because it wasn’t really all that edgy and outlandish, but wow.
I was amazed. I absolutely adore this collection. There are so many different looks and so many different age groups the collection can reach. The colors they paired together are fabulous. Even simple things, like mixing different patterns turned out amazing. I absolutely love this! There are outfits that are sweet, edgy, professional, and vintage. The designer did an AMAZING job. I commend the designer.

@Etsune: I am really glad you like this. I am always in two minds about including more “traditional” designers like Hiroko Koshino and Yuki Torii. But they create such beautiful clothes! I just want to see them, and show them.

Funny that you mention that you were skeptical about clicking the preview image. You know, I actually had an incredibly hard time selecting an image to represent this collection on the front page. Yuki Torii presents such a wide variety of looks that any of the colorful ones seems to misrepresent the whole collection. So I went for the neutral white look. I also felt it is a beautiful shot. ^_-

@Kjeld:
Yeah, I can sort of understand the conflict in having to choose; they are all so beautiful and different! Have you ever thought of putting up a collage of some images as a cover shot when there are many different looks?

@Etsune: We actually have a very strict design policy for the front page: one person full body shot only. That looks especially cool when you click on the list view icon on top of the page (the grid).

What looks cool?

All the full body pictures neatly lined up with the people in almost exactly the same dimensions:

You can see this page by clicking on the list view icon on top of the page (the grid).

Incidentally, notice how the h.NAOTO show photo (second from top on the left) breaks the rhythm because it doesn’t follow the full body guideline.
