Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

Here are some good refreshing dresses. Nothing really ‘new’ but Hiroko Koshino has an incredible sense of elegance and an eye for colours (except the lime green). Great photos.

Gorgeous prints, and a wonder with colours. Love the tights, definitely makes the runway versus street look. I’m in love with the white tailored one (12 rows down), has a bit of a Calvin Klein aspect, but much more accessible. And, although they were few, the shorts all are flattering and exciting.

Hiroko ruled the runway with all kind of colors and styles, from the formal and dark to the craziest prints! Loved it! 10 out of 10!

Thanks for the comments. I am always in two minds about shooting and showing Hiroko Koshino’s shows on JS. It is not street fashion, but her designs are always absolutely gorgeous and I love her work.

Great pieces! They hang well on all the models and have feminine lines and cuts. The tights are really cool, esp the red/black fading ones with the shorter black dress with red trim and white hem. (Love to have that dress in my closet!) The white dresses with the ink paintings on them are absolutely gorgeous! Haven’t seen anything quite like that yet. I understand being torn about street/non street but hey, someone somewhere is wearing her designs on the street ;) Thanks for the upload!
ps. The designer looks so tiny next to those models!

@Sierra: Thanks. I had to laugh when Hiroko appeared with the two models. They were already quite tall but were also wearing high heels. They just towered over her. They looked like giants next to Hiroko.

@Kjeld, I’m so glad you posted this show! You’re right in saying it’s not exactly street fashion, but I could picture a few of those colorful dresses walking down the street in Harajuku if they were styled the right way. And it’s great to mix it up sometimes! Thanks for the post :)

@Laureliz: Thanks. It’s extremely helpful to hear that. We can only be in one place at a time, and we have limited resources for selecting, editing and uploading all these images (need to work through a few thousand images a day). So I always wonder if we should use the time and effort we spend on Hiroko Koshino’s show to cover a designer who is closer to the street fashion we usually cover. We do cover those, too, of course. The first ones should be uploaded today or tomorrow.

I think it is great inspiration for texture and movement of a garment to take right to the streets! Loved the leggings too! Does she design those?

Oh, he sorry I saw the last photo and thought it was the designer and it was she. . or did not think.

I loved her incorporation of old, Japanese, ukiyo-e, woodblock print on the dresses. Definitely a nice touch, and well avoided making it too overbearingly themed. Also, the classic, kimono-like embroidery with the pine trees was genius.

Great photos, lovely collection.

JFW continues to be the most exciting.
