Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

I want her ring. And by the way it isn’t Summer anymore, really. ;)

She is so cute, she looks like a doll! I really like the big eyes on her phone, and the negligee as a duster is a very nice look!

@Mel: Haha, good point about the season! On JS, the season really refers to the kind of clothes people wear in the images. In Tokyo it is still over 30 degrees centigrade (86 degrees Fahrenheit). You can only wear summer fashion in those kind of temperatures. We have had the hottest summer in Japan in 113 years (there are no records before that, so possibly the hottest summer ever), so I am very much looking forward to being able to reference the clothes as autumn fashion! These high temperatures are tiring.

I just notice that we are even safe in terms of dates. This year, in the US the fall equinox falls on September 22, 11:09 P.M. EDT. With the current temperatures in Japan, that doesn’t feel very real, though… ;-)

@Kjeld: Wow! It’s THAT hot? I really didn’t think it had been a great summer in Japan because the majority of summer shots had been dull and quite grey. I suppose it must have been very humid in the area you were shooting! Heat makes me tired easily! So tomorrow it is autumn? I suppose it doesn’t seem real, haha. >.<

@Mel: It is EXTREMELY tiring, believe me. Especially as Japan is indeed, as you mentioned, very very humid. So you wear an extra layer just to catch all the sweat. But that extra layer also adds to the heat of course…

So tomorrow it is autumn? I suppose it doesn’t seem real, haha. >.<

Very true. Thankfully, the weather forecasts predict that from tomorrow (9/23) temperatures will go down to about 25 degrees centigrade (77 degrees Fahrenheit). Cooler, but not cool enough yet to put you in an autumn mood. So we’ll see more summer clothes for a while, I think.

SHE IS SO CUTE! I love the roundness of her face and the softness of her features! I know this is completely unrelated to what this site is about, but still. I also like her ring, backpack, and socks.
