Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

This is great! Do you see much of this kind of style in Osaka? This seems very Tokyo for sure!

the bracelet is very middle eastern—the entire outfit is, in fact. super cool!

@Lactose Intoler-Art: Not too much. Ryo is actually a member of a group working on a fashion show to take place later this month in Osaka. All the members that I met were pretty cool.

Thats great! Isnt it hot in Osaka now with all of those layers? Tokyo is killing me! Haha..And it was AMAZING meeting Emi-san and Marie-san! We had a great time.

@Lactose Intoler-Art: They were very thin layers, but Ryo must still have felt the heat. I barely got any work done today; it was just way too hot (and I have no air-conditioning…).

He seems photogenic!

@Mel: Ryo will be happy to hear that. I have been in contact with him since we met on the street and did the shoot; he is delighted with the comments.

Not loving it… It feels to awkward, like it doesn’t flow together well. It’s also a bit too feminine… I don’t know… trans-gender homeless Muslim?? I do love the bracelets though.

this guy uses the japaneses way of piling up things with no order.
i would love to see him wearing things with coordination.

@Kjeld: Ha cool! Oh by the way do you speak totally fluent in Japanese Kjeld? Or just enough?

Aug 4, 2010 (3735 days ago)

@tweetie: I thought the bag made a perfect match actually. Same hue, and it looks really battered which fits in well with the overall look. Fashion and taste is notoriously subjective, of course, so I am curious to hear what other people think.

@Mel: Webster defines fluent as capable of using a language easily and accurately. So, I guess the answer is yes… But I haven’t spent enough time and effort on writing and reading so I still don’t speak Japanese as well as a native speaker. One of these days!
