DressCamp unveiled its latest offerings in a much anticipated show in the Tokyo International Forum. Designer Toshikazu Iwaya, renowned for OTT designs and themes, didn’t disappoint in an outrageously retro collection. The theme was Disco Diva – a huge glitter ball was the backdrop to this stomping tour de force.
70s patterns and dicobaby images prevailed and the garish flares and ubiquitous hot pants were on the catwalk before we had the chance to draw breath. Coiffured hair and head scarves with mini glittering pink halternecks made for dazzling viewing. The womenswear finished with tiny bikinis and vest tops with natty fruit logos.
In an overtly sexy show, Iwaya certainly loves to caricature gender stereotypes. Macho boys covered in Florida fake tan with rippling muscles and tiny shorts were suggestive of Dolce & Gabbana and Jean-Paul Gaultier. Luminous Paisley suits, lightweight jumpsuits and double-breasted trenchcoats closed the menswear.
In a kaleidoscopic collection DressCamp lived up to its reputation with an assertive and vibrant show that played to Iwaya’s obvious strengths.
