With a beautifully cute and original mise-en-scene, Eri Utsugi’s Mercibeaucoup label gave a lesson in what fashion should be about. Balloon installations and wonky sounds were a suitable background for a riotous ride through Utsugi’s Spring/Summer Collection 2007.
Models resplendent in rocker group Kiss make-up jumped around the stage like kids left alone on a bouncy castle. Fun open dresses with ruffles, very subtle knife pleats and summery vests and leggings opened for the girls. However the highlight was a striking red niqab-style dress which went to the thigh. Cutesy striped polos, mini bubble skirts and sexy black bikini tops rounded off a spectacular and inspiring womenswear.
The menswear was just as impressive. Dennis the Menace tops, polka dot pants with horror print hoods were daring and playful. Clown pants, tank tops and waistcoats along with some neo-skate wear closed this fun-packed adventure and brought out the child in everyone.
