Fashion and kimono design courses
Tokyo Fashion Senmon Gakkko’s long history is intertwined with the well-respected department store Ginza Matsuya. Even now, the school offers opportunities for training at Ginza Matsuya, and the department store also hosts the school’s fashion shows.
Tokyo Fashion Senmon Gakkko is well-know for placing strong emphasis on technical training and CAD based production plays an important role in their courses. Classes are kept small so that students are closer to their instructors. Instructions starts from color and sketches and raises students abilities from there. Instructors teach “until there is no doubt about understanding.”
Individual guidance is offered so that students can study at their own pace and with their own rhythm.
Tokyo Fashion Senmon Gakkko maintains a kimono fashion department where the basics of kimono (types and features of kimono and kimono fabric, organization, usage, dyeing), kimono dressing and Japanese dressmaking (production of lined kimono, haori, men’s wool ensemble, semi-formal kimono for women, long-sleeved kimono, etc.) are taught. Graduates receive government specialist accreditation.
The school’s deep relationship with the Matsuya group makes that students can easily find employment, quite an important consideration for a sector where finding a job is often hard to do.
