sunaokuwahara

sunaokuwahara is an elegant and innovative womenswear brand which is part of Issey Miyake’s A-Net group. It is one of Japan’s top selling labels and is widely admired by both press and its peers.

A protégé of Issey Miyake, the kind of introverted Sunao Kuwahara has a philosophical and slightly architectural approach to design.

Born in Hiroshima prefecture in 1960, Kuwahara graduated from Vantan Design Institute in 1979. He joined the Issey Miyake Design Office in 1989.

Unique about Kuwahara is that he openly says that he wants his customers to wear his clothes for a long time, kind of a no-no in the fast changing fashion business.

The laid back designer may be intellectual, but says that he does not work from a conceptual framework and likes ideas to find him instead of the other way around.
