Swedish multinational fast-fashion retail-clothing company

H & M Hennes & Mauritz AB (H&M) is a Swedish multinational retail-clothing company founded in 1947 that opened its first store in Japan in Ginza on September 13, 2008. H&M’s second Japan store opened in Harajuku in November of the same year, followed by a store in Shibuya on September 19, 2009. More stores followed after that.

Although H&M produces fast-fashion, its items are surprisingly popular among the people that JAPANESE STREETS shoots. They often combine these items in an imaginative way with more avant-garde styles, in the process creating a look that H&M’S Swedish designers probably did not envision (see photos below).

In 2004, H&M launched its first collaboration collection with a famous top class fashion designer, in this case Karl Lagerfeld. Large crowds converged on H&M stores in large cities worldwide and at many places inventory was sold out within an hour.

Since then, H&M has collaborated with Stella McCartney, Viktor & Rolf, Madonna, Roberto Cavalli, Kylie Minogue, Marimekko, Matthew Williamson, Jimmy Choo, Sonia Rykiel, Lanvin, Elin Kling, Versace, Anna Dello Russo, and others.

So far, H&M has collaborated with only one Japanese label, Comme des Garçons.

H&M items always look better in photos. These people, mist likely, look good in anything.

H&M Management: on February 3, 2015, we visited and purchased from the H&M Osaka in Dotombori. We were surprised at how inexcusably rude and unhelpful the young staff were to all the customers!!! You should review your store cameras to watch your staff’s BAD behavior. Who chooses and trains your people, H&M???
