Modern casual elegance

Japanese designer Ryota Shiga was born in Iwaki city, Fukushima Prefecture in 1985.

While attending Sugino Fashion College, Shiga was nominated for the Onward Kashiyama New Design Prize in 2005, and again in 2006.

In order to experience the differences between Japanese and European fashion systems and education firsthand, Shiga went to Antwerp, Belgium in 2006 where he studied for a year.

After graduating, Shiga travelled to Milan, Italy to work as an assistant designer under Antonio Berardi. During this time, he was also chosen to appear in the Art of Fashion held in San Francisco, USA.

In October 2009, Shiga debuted as a featured Japanese designer in a show held during the Asia-Pacific Weeks in Berlin, Germany. After several other projects, Shiga returned to Japan in 2010 where he initially worked as a freelance designer.

He launched his RYOTA SHIGA brand in January 2011.
