Yes, that is a big shortcoming of this photo software program, I am afraid. It doesn't understand Japanese...
But there is a way out:
このサイトを使うと日本語のインプットがで来ます。
http://www.pinyin.info/tools/converter/chars2uninumbers.html
Use the above site. Type in the Japanese characters, hit convert and copy and paste the numbers into the comment box.
Where will you be going in Japan?

In November you will visit Japan for two weeks, right? You are doing great!
I noticed the title of you photo after I posted and immediately changed my question from when to where, but you were ahead of me!
Are you familiar with the following site?
http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/jwb/wwwjdic?9T
This page and the Word Search/Home and Multi-Radical Kanji links are really helpful. You can check on this site whether you are making the right selection when you convert from kana into kanji.
By the way, the kanji for month (月), week (週) and Japan (日本) are really easy. Try using them, you will encounter them a lot in Japan.

You're welcome about the links. Too bad that your computer doesn't handle kanji well, but perhaps the dictionary site will help with that.
What will you be doing in Tokyo? Just visiting, or studying?

Just visiting for a holiday. Too see if i like it as much as i think i will! then when i get back i think i would like to live in Japan for a year. For something different. Plus I would like to study Japanese more, and i think that would be easier if i was in Japan. im so excited. only 100 days to go now

A year sounds a little short to learn enough Japanese and to get a basic understanding of Japanese culture; I hope you can make it longer. I totally agree with you that you probably learn Japanese faster in Japan, assuming that you already have a good base. I see that you're really counting the days!

haha ill go everywhere! i want to make the most out of my holiday. but i thought a year would be good to start off with. if you think about it, it would be a dramatic change from learning japanese here to learning in japan.
Even if i carried on studies in Aus, the experience of having lived/studied in Japan would make it alot easier im sure. Im dont know if i want to stay their forever because i love the beach and hot weather too much .
Who knows you know. no strict plans, just see what happens

Language and culture can't be separated, so it is always a good idea to spend some time in the country of the language you're learning. I hope you like it here. It took me at least three years to get used to Japan, but I didn't speak any Japanese when I first came here, though. Knowing some Japanese will help you a lot! And hey, there are beautiful beaches and there is hot weather in Japan, too. Just visit some remote Okinawan islands.
